Green Creek Cirque
Green Creek Cirque
Description: I began this piece guiding a 3-day trip to the Green Creek Cirque in the Twin Sisters - one of my favorite places in the North Cascades. As with many of these trips, I'm never sure if I will have time or energy at the end of the day to dedicate to art. This was a carry-over, meaning we climbed with overnight packs with us the entire time, in technical terrain, setting up bivvies along the way. The first day was super long and I didn't have any time to paint. After another long day of climbing on day 2, I was able to squeeze in a productive plei nair session before going to bed as well as another session in the morning before hiking out to the trail head. Even though these plein air sessions are often short, through gestural lines and washes I'm able to capture the feeling of the place used to inform the remainder of the painting.
*** this piece does have a crease mark in the middle as I needed to fold it in order to fit into my pack. A lot of my work has blemishes from traveling in the field, which I believe enhance the authentic quality by showing its journey into the wilderness.
